THE TRUNK OF PILAR I

The day Pilar showed me (recently rescued from the trash) the trunk I thought: has many possibilities! So I gave him thousands back and I looked online, but it looked nothing like what was around me over the head. When you brought me it was quite damaged, the base fell, lid was cracked and blue enamel… So the first thing we did was remove fasteners and the base in place with a few nails and then stripping because the glaze was very attached to the wood.

The paint stripper will save time and work, but it is very toxic and I recommend using it in a well ventilated place, protected by gloves and mask. After stripping we cleaned it thoroughly with a damp cloth and ready to paint.

Before painting we have caulking cracks and chipped areas and we also glued fracture of the lid with white glue, passed a few days holding with a cat to return it to its place.

When painting, I liked red but as the idea was to cover the interior and exterior is painted, I found a scrap of precious fabric for the inside for two euros and had to settle on a chocolate brown to the outside. I also wanted to give a touch of old, so the same brown who had bought mixed it with white and got a color mauve, quite apparent, that formed the basis for the trunk. On this tone I put the chocolate brown to finish making a decapé.

The paint we used is acrylic because it is less toxic than the synthetic paint and for use at home, less smell. Also, when you tap to clean the brushes, it is easier because only with a little SOAP and water, the paint comes out wonderfully…

In half an hour the paint has dried and steel wool we will pass through the surface that we are interested in scraping to remove the Brown out mauve, achieving this result.
